I picked interest in Hebrew when I came across the lyrics "Yishmaeni Elohai" "My G_d will hear me".First I came across "Hebrew4Christians", got hungry for more and my search led me to this wonderful site. Right now am just a beginner but am happy to say that I now know the words at the top of each paragraph in Psalms 119. Kindly tell me why they were numbered this way.
I was able to identify the words "Shema Israel" just after a few minutes at your site.
Every day I dedicate an hour to my Hebrew lessons from your site.
My advice to fellow Hebrew learners is that take one bite at a time, chew it well, and let it digest well(reflect on it). That way I have been able to learn much in a very short time.
My reason for learning Hebrew? It is wonderful to hear the Almighty's message in the very language he spoke to his people. I do not know how many fellow Ugandans are learning Hebrew but I would like to introduce a Club that dedicates some time to learning this beautiful language. Please Jeff give some ideas on how to go about this.

I want to learn Hebrew for the purpose of reading the bible and at first I tried the Rosetta Stone program, but it was clunky and non-mechanical so I did not learn much. I am beginning my education in learning to hear my
Messiah speak in Hebrew...challenging but oh so
rewarding!! I have a question. For those of us who
can't read Hebrew what Bible would you recommend
that is printed in English that renders the most
accurate Hebrew interpretation? I currently use
The complete Jewish Bible as my main Bible reading
resource, but I am wondering is there a more
accurate Hebraic Translation that can be read in
English? Or is this largely impossible due to the
differences in the two ways of thinking and

Comments: I have found this site very useful. I am teaching a Bible study and going through Psalm 119. I am using Dr Frank Seekins book Hebrew Word Picture and your information dovetails into that and even more so. I work with addicts and bringing the Gospel to them. I have found that talking about Biblical concepts in a concrete way sits better with them than the abstract. Your explanations of of torah and mishpat and mitsvah were very useful in understanding concepts in Psalm 119, especially verses 17-24.

role of the letters in biblical Hebrew after I came to an impasse. I
have now completed two draft manuscripts on the role that the
sounds of the alef-beth play in the root words. Though my
approach is from the angle of sound rather than letter pictures, I
would like to share it with you because it very much
complements your approach to meaning through the names of
the letters. The thrust of my work is that the relationship
between sound and sense in ancient Hebrew is like a meditation
or prayer that contains a depth and range of awareness to which
people in our time can relate just as profoundly as our ancient
spiritual ancestors did.
