The Burdick Print Paluxy River Region, Texas 90 to 135 million years ago |
The Discovery:
In the early part of the 20th century locals in the Paluxy River region discovered a large number of dinosaur footprints in ancient limestone beds. The locals also reported finding human tracks in the same area. It has unanimously been agreed that the dinosaur tracks and the possible human tracks are in the same strata and from the same time period. This sparked a large debate between the creationists and evolutionists. While many of the tracks are still in-situ in the Paluxy Region, The Burdick track (See picture at left) and other tracks were removed from the area by Al Berry in 1938 because they were in danger of being destroyed due to construction. The Burdick Track is currently located at the Creation Evidence Museum.
Established Theory:
Scientists are unanimous that the footprints are of dinosaurs and there is no possible way that they could be human. Some evolutionists have also accused the creationists of carving the prints so that they do appear more human. It appears that for the most part the evolutionists have not made a serious attempt to investigate the Paluxy region out of a desire to determine the truth. Their scientific investigations end at the concept that man is only 200,000 years old and therefore the footprints cannot be human.
Alternative Theory:
On the creationist side most are unanimous that the prints are human in origin. But, again there is a strong doctrinal bias. If the footprints were human it would prove that the evolutionary model is false and would go along way to proving the creationist viewpoint. The Creationists bias is not as strong as the evolutionists, as their doctrine will not fail if it is found that the tracks are not human.
One creationist group who did make a serious investigation into the Paluxy region is the "Creation Research Institute" (link below) who determined that the tracks could be human but the evidence was inconclusive. Just as some evolutionists accused creationists of tampering with the tracks to make them more human, some creationists have accused the evolutionists of tampering with the tracks to make them appear less human. (See links below) The evolutionists claim that the human tracks are carved is disputed by some creationists who report that cross sectioning of the track has shown the the track could not be carved but is genuine. Some creationists such as the "Creation Research Institute" have reported that this test is inconclusive.
While some of the tracks discovered which appear to be human are of normal adult and child sizes but some are extra-ordinarily large, up to 19" in length. If these are human it would also show that some humans were giants supporting the Biblical text of Genesis 6 (While the word "giants" appear in the KJV of the Bible, the Hebrew word is "nephaliym" meaning fallen ones but, the "Book of Enoch", the Greek Septuagint and other Biblical references indicate that the nephaliym were in fact giants).
Another interesting footprint found in the same region and strata is that of a large mammal. While the print looks like a cat it is 9" across, larger than any known cat past or present. According to the evolutionary theory large mammals also evolved long after the dinosaurs became extinct.
Conclusions:
If the tracks are in fact human it proves that humans and dinosaurs co-existed. If the dinosaurs did become extinct 60 million years ago then humans also existed 60 million years ago. But, If the evolutionists method of dating the geological record is faulty then the creationists view that dinosaurs existed 6,000 years ago is possible.
I did find the following letter written by David Smith (associate pastor at First Southern Baptist Church) to Dr. Kent Hovind concerning the 1989 Nova TV Special "God, Darwin And The Dinosaurs". But I could only find this letter at this web site and am unable to verify its accuracy.

I grew up in Glen Rose...I went on an excavation with Dr. Carl Baugh. ...we followed the footsteps of a man which were beside a dinosaurs footprints. It was as if the man were walking with the dinosaur. Nova was there to film the dig. There was also an evolutionist there who had been arguing with Dr. Baugh the entire time.
Nova didn't film much of the tracks or our dig but they did interview this evolutionist. He told them he had not seen anything there to disprove evolution. What he didn't tell the camera was that he had refused to even turn around and look at the tracks we had been working on.
He stood with his back to the dig and the tracks while making these statements. Nova knew this man had not looked at the tracks but did not report that nor did they give Dr. Baugh equal air time to respond.
