Amino Acid Racemization
Chronometric Dating Method #3
Amino Acid Racemization Dating

Established Theory:

Living organisms contain two types of Amino Acids, L-Amino Acid and D-Amino Acid. After death the L-Amino Acids begin to change to D-Amino Acids. By comparing the L and D-Amino Acids an approximate date can be calculated. This technique is limited to about 200,000 years and the dates can vary depending on the environment the organism is found. Because the environment effects the change of Amino Acids, this method is sometimes considered a Relative Dating method.

Alternative Theory:

The change from L to D-Amino Acids is strongly affected by environmental conditions such as temperature, pressure and pH that can give false results of age.
