The Modern Hebrew alphabet is a result of a long history of evolution and change. The Hebrew alphabet originated thousands of years ago and was originally written with pictographs, pictures that represented a tool, animal, body part, etc. Years later this Ancient Hebrew alphabet morphed into what is usually called Paleo-Hebrew. The alphabet morphed again and became the Hebrew alphabet we know today.
In this video we will examine the history and evolution of each letter in the Hebrew alphabet from its early pictographic origins to its modern forms as well as its adoption into the Greek and Latin alphabets and the numbers we use today. We will also investigate how these ancient pictographic letters were combined to form words, whose letters provide definition to the word itself.
