Nampa Doll

Description: In 1889 this clay doll, about 1 1/2 in length, was brought up by a well drill from a depth of 300 feet. The strata at this depth is dated at about 2 million years old. The figurine was found under several different strata including fifeteen feet of lava basalt. Also from this depth were brought up many small clay balls.

Mainstream Theory: The object may have been pushed down by the drill bit from a higher elevation or it may have fallen through a fissure in the ground.

Alternative Theory: The presence of iron on the surface of the figurine indicates that it is of ancient origin and could not have been hoaxed. Many scientists who investigated the incident shortly after the discovery agreed that the figurine is authentic and of very ancient origins.
