Reuben

By Jeff A. Benner

The name Reuben means "behold a son" and is given to the first born of Jacob through Leah who gave his name "Because the Yahweh has looked upon my affliction" (Genesis 29:32).

The name is a combination of two Hebrew words ראו (re’u) and בן (ben). ראו (re’u) is the imperative form of the verb ראה (R.A.H) meaning "to see," whereas the imperative means look, see or behold. The word בן (ben) means "son."
